SHO PROCESS
FRESH FROZEN CANNABIS
Our cannabis is harvested and immediately frozen to create our starting material for the wash.
SOLVENTLESS
EXTRACTION
Fresh frozen cannabis is placed into The OspreyTM 75 gal. washing machine with ice and water.
The OspreyTM agitates the fresh frozen cannabis, to separate the trichome* heads from the trichome stalks.
*Trichomes are the crystalline extensions off of the cannabis plant. The round trichome heads hold the terpenes and cannabinoids, like water balloons about to burst!
The terpenes in these trichome heads dictate flavor, aroma, and taste, and are a main focus as we collect the hash water.
The most ideal trichomes for ice water extraction have big heads and skinny stalks.
1ST WASH
Micron (µ):

Now we collect the hash water using a number of bags, all with different size micron holes to dictate what passes through.
Every micron size bag is used to collect the hash water during the 1st wash.
Plant matter is stopped at the 220 micron bag.
90+120 micron bags are our sweet spot to catch trichome heads and are therefore our premium product.
WASHES
CONTINUED
For the next series of washes, various sizes of micron bags are removed to engage in mixed micron hash collection.
FREEZE DRYING
Collected water hash is scooped from each bag and evenly spread onto trays
Hash is frozen in the freeze dryer and then goes through a process called sublimation to consistently dry the hash
Water hash is sifted, collected, recorded, and tested before moving to rosin process
After the water hash is transferred into double-bagged nylon filters, each holding 10-15 grams.
Ice hash is now prepped for the press!
THE PRESS
Water hash is pressed in a Pure PressureTM Rosin Press, always at the perfect temp of 160-200°f.
1st Press: the initial rosin squeezed out of the wash hash-packed filters. This press is completed in a very short duration to ensure the highest quality, as prolonged head exposure will degrade the rosin. This requires the perfect cut off point while pressing.
2nd Press: the hash that remains from the 1st press is pressed again at higher pressure to ensure all cannabinoids have been used.
THE CURE
The cure of the pressed rosin dictates what kind of cinsistency we get. Olio currently carries 3 consistencies: Jam, Batter, Cold-Cure. Our rosin also goes right into our pen carts and rosin gummies (coming soon).
ROSIN GUMMIES
JAM
Heat Cure
Jam consistency is created when the rosin is heated in a jar. The heat melts terpenes down, while pressure from the jar forms crystals, giving us our infamous jammy, crystalline consistency.
BATTER
Heat Cure
Batter consistency is created when the rosin is headed in a jar, but for about half of the time as jam.
COLD-CURE
Room-Temp Cure
Cold-Cure Batter consistency is created by letting the rosin cure at room-temp.
